New Disconnect Policy

On Monday, October 20, 2025, the Board of Commissioners of East Columbia Water District voted to make the following changes to the District's Disconnect Policy:

Disconnect (Nonpayment) Policy

The failure of a customer to pay water charges duly imposed shall result in the automatic imposition of the following penalties:

  • Nonpayment by the current month’s due date will be subject to a penalty of ten percent (10%) of the current month’s delinquent amount.
  • All accounts Past Due are subject to disconnect; meaning nonpayment of accounts will result in the water being shut off from the Member’s property on the Disconnect Date printed on the monthly utility bill.
  • In the event it becomes necessary for the District to shut off the water from a Member’s property, a fee set by the District in its rate schedule will be charged at the time of the disconnection of the service.
  • Disconnect Fees:
    • 1st time disconnected $75.
    • Additional disconnects can result in a higher amount being charged for the disconnect.

BE IT RESOLVED on this day, Monday, October 20, 2025, by the Board of East Columbia Water District, we approve the above noted changes to the Disconnect Policy effective January 01, 2026:

  • Adding the penalty is accessed each month for the current month’s billed amount.
  • Adding the Disconnect Date is printed on the monthly utility bill.
  • Changing the policy to reflect a Disconnect Fee at the time of disconnection rather than a Reconnect Fee at the time of reconnection.
